After the class yesterday, I watched this Family Guy episode. While the main goal of the show is to be funny, there are some pretty interesting things said in this episode. Let me know how this makes you feel, especially after class yesterday.
Also, here's another blog that discusses what we were talking about in regards to the Patriot Act. This guy, Bruce Maulden really has some anger towards the current treatment of US Muslims, but if you can see past the rage, he has some good points to be made about our government's attitudes on freedoms.

I thought the statistics they gave about fatalities in Iraq were interesting...I definitely didn't expect to see them come up. I also thought it was strange that they didn't take the chance to poke more fun at the terrorists, I was expecting them to make a much bigger deal out of them than they did. But, I liked Kevin's defense of his desertion of the army, and I liked the portrayal of the Iraqi kid.
ReplyDeleteI watch Family Guy pretty often and usually they do a good job of mixing comedy and some universal truth, which is what this episode did. I enjoyed that they included nearly every side of the argument about the Iraqi war and kind of letting the audience come to their own determination. It's also not very characteristic of Family Guy to have such a touching ending, but I found it refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big South Park fan which is even more merciless and satirical than Family Guy when it comes to poking fun race, religions, etc though I do love Family Guy but though both shows do their share of joking often times they're respectful of other peoples beleifs they just try and get people to see it from a different angle...I shared a link in regards to South Park censoring Mohammads image.
